Teachers, civil society organizations, and institutions in Plovdiv discussed ways to improve the adaptation and education of refugee children.
On April 28 and 30, 2025, the Ukraine Support and Renovation Foundation and the Compass Community Center, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR), the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), and the Regional Department of Education – Plovdiv (RDE Plovdiv) organized meetings and trainings focused on the adaptation and integration of refugee children into the educational system of Plovdiv.
On April 28, 2025, an online meeting was held on the topic “Education of Refugee Children: Challenges and Achievements in Plovdiv,” with the participation of around 100 kindergarten and school principals from the Plovdiv region. The event provided an opportunity for open discussion on the challenges of including refugee children in education, as well as for sharing the experience of Plovdiv schools, good practices, and initiatives in support of students and their families.
On April 30, 2025, a full-day teacher training was held in the Ivan Vazov Library hall in Plovdiv under the theme “Inclusive Classrooms: The Educational Path of Refugee Children in Plovdiv.” The training brought together 40 teachers from schools across the Plovdiv region. Lecturers included experts from UNHCR, the Ukraine Support and Renovation Foundation, and the team from prepodavame.bg.presented practical guidelines for creating an inclusive classroom environment and strategies for working with children who have experienced trauma. The participants exchanged valuable experiences and shared the challenges and opportunities for further support.
Both events aim to establish conditions for deeper cooperation between educational institutions, civil society, and international organizations in support of refugee children.
The events are carried out with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and the financial support of the Rotary Club Plovdiv International.
