During the International Folklore Festival in Plovdiv, the head of the Ukrainian troupe, Anna Trayno, presented Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov with a used shell casing from the war in Ukraine. The gift was part of the traditional exchange of souvenirs among the festival participants.

“Bravo for preserving your culture – it can be felt all around the city. In Ukraine, things are frightening right now, especially for the children. Here, they felt peace and happiness,” said Anna Trayno. She explained that the casing was decorated using traditional techniques from her region and stands as proof that art is stronger than weapons.

Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov greeted all participants and thanked them for enriching Plovdiv’s cultural life: “I hope you enjoyed your stay. Thank you to the Culture Department for their efforts. Plovdiv is a city of many ethnicities, and it is natural for it to host and showcase cultures from around the world.”

The mayor also received traditional drinks, hats, and albums from all the groups. He took photos with each troupe, and at the end, everyone gathered for a group photo in front of the Municipality building.

A curious moment during the ceremony involved the Italian troupe, which remained standing throughout the event. It turned out the group is militarized, and its members must stay on their feet whenever holding their national flag.

At the close of the event, it was announced that next year’s 30th edition of the International Folklore Festival will be even more spectacular, with even more participants.
