The Heart of the Community: Two Years of Transformation at Second Home

03.06.2024 Ukraine Renovation Comments Off

June 2, 2022. Second Home welcomed the first families into the first renovated rooms. I was very happy that with the help and support of a huge number of people and institutions, we organized accommodation and renovation of the building! Second Home is an example of a unique cause where the state, volunteers, business, NGOs, the UN, the refugees themselves, and their children acted like one united family! Yes, we had complexities, we had problems, but we also had tremendous support! And in 2 years, we helped provide shelter to more than 900 people! And with humanitarian support – to more than 10,000… Now in Plovdiv and the region, there are over 11,000 Ukrainians, including Bessarabian and Taurian Bulgarians. People are learning the language, looking for jobs, opening companies, hiring people, helping each other, and participating in many initiatives to show their gratitude for the support! And a few shots from the past to the present… Welcome to visit, friends! To sit on benches donated by you, to listen to birds, to feel the tranquility donated by you in this park, to see how we try to take care of this place, which has truly become HOME for us… especially for those elderly people who have nowhere to return… We heartily thank the Plovdiv Municipality and the Plovdiv City Council for daily care, thank the Honorary Consul in the city of Plovdiv, Engineer Dimitar Georgiev, UNHCR Bulgaria, UNICEF Bulgaria, who also supported us with the renovation and activities for children, thank our volunteers and donors, without whom all this would have been impossible! Thanks to you, friends, today we can help all the people in need who arrive in Plovdiv! More than 500 children are enrolled and attending schools, and under 200 small children are enrolled and attending kindergartens, we expect this year that Ukrainian students will start their studies at higher education institutions in Plovdiv. Together with you, we are giving people a chance for a decent life! And we are bringing smiles back to children! And for all this, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! You are very good people with big hearts, open to our children! Two years. Second Home. Plovdiv.
